Criminal Rights! Have we taken it too far?

Consider this short story from our local news!

Fox13 News by David Wells 11/26/2012, Salt Lake City, Utah

It started shortly after 3:30 p.m. when Unified Police were investigating a crash.  Officers were told by a driver involved in the crash that his wife was dead at a Cottonwood Heights residence.
Cottonwood Heights police responded to a residence at 7941 S 3350 E and found a deceased female victim with injuries consistent with homicide. Police did not disclose the nature of the injuries.
A female relative of the victim was at the home when police arrived.
Sgt. Gary Young of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department said police have been to the residence several times for domestic disturbances.

The rest of the story:
After finding a dead woman at the residence about 3:45 PM, the police "withdrew from the premises" in order to obtain a search warrant to go in and gather evidence! They were still waiting as I watched the local news at 6 PM! Is this ridiculous or what? They didn't have enough evidence that a crime had been committed?  Waiting for hours while some clerk had to type up the "official form" for  why they were requesting a warrant and then go find some judge to sign it! What a waste of time and resources.
