Road Kill in Your Chinese Take-out?

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — A Chinese restaurant was forced to close its doors after patrons witnessed a dead deer being rolled into the restaurant's kitchen.

Patrons at the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg, Ky., called the health department Thursday afternoon after witnessing a disturbing scene.

"Two of the workers came in wheeling a garbage can and they had a box sitting on top of it," Katie Hopkins told WKYT. "And hanging out of the garbage can, they were trying to be real quick with it. So that nobody could see it. But there was like a tail, and a foot and leg. Sticking out of the garbage can and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen."

The owner admitted to Whitley County Health Department officials that the deer had been found dead on the highway, but said the deer was for his family.

Officials said the deer was intended for consumption within the restaurant.

"Apparently they were going to feed it to customers, they had it all cut up and they were dissecting it," Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell told WATE.

Customers said they would be hesitant about eating at the restaurant again.

"For them to have picked something off the road! Who knows how long it had been dead?! No!" Beth Adkins said.

The restaurant will have to pass a sanitation before the health department "will even think about" allowing the restaurant to open again, according to officials.
